14.May.2012
We had a lovely Sunday that involved great sunshine and a lot of food :) Travis sent the kids into the store on Saturday night with a $100 and told them to pick out whatever I would want.
I got
#1. a mega huge pack of Reese's peanut butter cups. {great choice.}
#2. a beautiful lily plant. {more on this to come.}
#3. a card that said in big letters YOU ARE AWESOME.
I asked why they chose that card {it was $5.. a pricey little fella!} and they said.. "well we all talked about it and decided you love the word awesome so we thought this was the one for you!" HA! It's true, I do love that word.
The door we go out every morning has a large sticker on it that says "BE AWESOME TODAY" and I have a frame in my living room that says "Every time I get sad I stop being sad and start being awesome." So, they hit the nail on the head with their rationale. love those kids!
So this lily plant. It smells terrible. Like I would imagine living inside the funeral home may smell. I didn't tell the kids this but I whispered it to Travis last night and he said he thought that was being a little dramatic. He woke up this morning and said I was gonna have to put that bugger outside to bloom ;) hehehe.
We went out to a great Chinese restaurant for lunch, took pictures at Anderson gardens in the morning {and my camera battery went dead right away. I could only be mad at myself for that ;} I got to go in to Target with 3 of the 4 kids and then got so annoyed with them that I just let them go off on their own and they ended up with Auntie Christa and Auntie Candace. haha. We went out for dessert to my parents and did a traditional {well, year #2 now} cement handprint stepping stone.
And we all voted that Joe is officially far to old and large to do anymore stepping stones. His hand didn't fit inside the pie tin. So this is his last year :) We used cement stain this time and spent a lot of time on pins and needles hoping we didn't stain my parents cement in the garage. They get weird about things like that ;) The stones dried more of a reddish brown than the orangey red or IH red I would have preferred. I have to cross my fingers for the next few days and I hope they don't get broken when being removed from the molds.

Five on Friday
1. I've been working more and taking pictures less. For me, this is a trend that will be the future as all my people advance into becoming school-aged. Sad, sort of. But I really sort of like being at my job too. I like the balance of work and family. It's just in me. I don't know, I always felt like I would be a good stay home mom too. Sometimes when I'm home, I cannot wait to leave for work. Sometimes when I'm at work, I wish for nothing more than being at home.
2. We took Charlie on a road trip this week. He went to see a farrier to get his hooves all fancied up. He stood nicely for 20 minutes while I braided his hair and got him ready for an adventure. An adventure. It was. Let's just say... 4 strong people were not enough to hold him down for the man to do his job. He left sweaty and braids disheveled. Do you know it's recommended to do them every 6 weeks. I can't handle that kind of stress more than once a year. It didn't look THAT hard..... and I noticed they sell the tools at Mills Fleet ;)I think my boy would cooperate more if strangers weren't touching him... :)
3. Favorite things party. Oh, how fun this day was. The idea is to gather a group of friends and each bring 5 {of the same} of your favorite item and then sort of swap. I read somewhere you should draw names and give out your items, but we did it more like a draw your name and you pick what you want sort of thing. I loved everything I came home with.
4. We also sewed a ton of initial shirts that night. We actually didn't finish. Apparently 2 sewing machines isn't enough for 38 shirts. Who would have thought? ;) Next time, more machines. And maybe daytime hours so I can take more pictures before it gets dark. haha.
5. Happy Mother's Day this weekend to all my favorite moms. My wish for mothers day? Lovely outdoor pictures with each of my children. Is that asking to much? why, yes.. it probably is :)
2.May.2012
I love Qdoba. Way more than Chipotle. I don't understand all you Chipotle lovers. It's so weird.
Tennis is weird too. Haha. People have explained the rules to me so many times and I still don't understand.. "30-40-love-" I guess if you don't play the sport growing up you never really get it. maybe?
I got the Silver Spoons episodes on netflix last week. The show from the 80's. I had to shut it off.. I couldn't handle the fake "audience laugh" that must have really been a hot idea back then. It was weird too. Like Chipotle. and tennis! ha!
I've got clothes on the line today. My kids took a nap. We went for a bike ride. I mowed the lawn. Had a heat stroke. And now get to have a girls' night for a FAVORITE THING party. What a great day :)
Comments I am with you on the scoring of tennis. I have watched hours with my husband, but still have a hard time??? You are not alone.;) - Heather

Joe's tennis schedule
27.April.2012
Five on Friday.
1. Travis turned 34. I surprised him with a party at the Legion last night that included all of his favorite people {well.. minus a few ;}. Surprised! He was. Let's just say getting him there involved a few f-bombs, some last minute drama-filled phone calls, and me being about the meanest wife ever. But.he.just.wouldn't.leave.the.house! The funniest part was when Andy told me that Travis was wanting him to go out tonight and Andy said he didn't think that was a good idea because Emily wouldn't like it! ha!
2. Hadley and Jada have their dance recital tonight! Thanks to Katey for keeping them overnight :) Between the surprise party and not feeling the best {a cold.. not surprise party sickness.} it was a nice peaceful 24 hours for me.
3. I've been painting furniture like a mad person. Of course I ran out of spray paint before I finished a single thing and I HAD to move it all back in to see how it looked. Now I have to move it all back out on the next non-rain-looking day.
4. I'm still worked up about this married couple side of the bed thing. I was ranting again last night and somebody said.. Um, Sarah.. you already told me about this when I saw you last month! I want to switch sides. Travis will.not.budge.
5. Cal Ripken started for Wyatt. Tennis is underway for Joe. They both have swimming lessons starting in a few weeks {against their will!} After having overly quiet and boring evenings for the last few weeks, I am ready to be busy again. Without TV, you look forward to being busy at night :)
Comments I would love to come to watch Joe and Wyatt let me know a schedule please! and not sure about #4 but maybe just don't tell me;) - grandma debbie

Ten on Thursday
1. "Pinterest is a liar". Did you see that post on Joy's Hope? It's true and I've been saying that for some time ;) Yesterday I made a "deep condition" recipe that I saw. I was about 4 hours post-condition, almost to Minneapolis.. when I reached up and touched my hair.. and about fell over. It was a giant grease ball. I'm talking my.hands.were.to.slippery.to.drive.after kinda grease. ish.
2. Mill City Museum yesterday, just my little kids and I. I bought the Historical Society membership on groupon and it had to be activated by May1.
3. I preddy much thought I rocked it when I drove right up to the museum {seriously.downtown.} and parked right across the street.
4. Until I was driving home, got turned around. Totally lost. And was sweating. With greasy hair.
5. I loved the historical details and old brick of the Mill City. My small people woulda rather hit up the Childrens Museum.
6. Our schools switched to a new milk that doesn't require refrigeration and has no expiration date. My kids come home complaining about it's nasty awful taste. You can bet this has me fired up. I just sent out a dozen emails to anyone who would maybe listen. Maybe this new milk is so awesomely healthy. But how can it be, I mean really. We are huge milk drinkers and I'm disappointed in a dairy farming district that wouldn't see the importance of real and fresh milk.
7.Ollie woke up in the night telling me he couldn't catch the butterflies in the ceiling. Yeah, he's got a fever and is home sick from school today.
8. Joe turned 14! 14. It's crazy. He's crazy cool. Even if his attitude towards his grades isn't. He still loves school, loves sports, loves social time, and is crazy funny.
9. We let him pick a restaurant for his birthday supper. Texas Roadhouse. I ate myself sick. HA! I should have encouraged Olive Garden and it's small portions.
10. Did you know that if you buy a bag of used pens and pencils {talking in the 1,000's} from Goodwill for $5... your teenage boys will spend hours and hours. And hours. Going through them. And totally enjoy themselves. $5 for good clean fun. I love it. Somebody cleaned out Grandma's house and had no idea of the treasure they left behind :)
9.April. 2012
Easter.
My least favorite part? Those tiny candy wrappers all over this house.
My favorite part? The adorable Easter dresses, cardigans, bow ties, and knickers. {even if there was some Easter morning outfit drama.}
I went for the color themed baskets again this year. Except that I pick things up here and there for the weeks {okay, months} prior to the big day.. and then I forget what I've thrown in my closet. Joe got 4 yellow packaged chocolate bunnies.
And you know what! Every.single.bunny. melted in my closet. I can't figure it out. It was on the top shelf and no where near the vents. My roommates are convinced that I am in menopause and when they turn the furnace on, I promptly shut the whole system down and open a window.
Oliver had a lovely little 1950's vintagey looking knickers&bowtie&suspender outfit. ♥ vintage kids. Of course, Travis met him with a good deal of negativity which rubbed off and he didn't want to wear it. He didn't like his "legs showing". After I finally talked him down, got him situated and went to deal with the five-year-old teenager... his suspenders "BROKE" {I totally am sure a certain co-parenter did this on purpose...} and he ended up wearing another outfit. The other outfit was paired with a vintage orange tie. Oliver felt the need to rip that tie to shreds in the car ride.
Hadley {a tiny 5 year old living in a 15 year old's mind} threw a fit and refused her Easter dress {"I told you in the store I didn't like it anyway!"} and brought me a picture from last year with the request to wear that dress. I don't have it anymore, it has long been passed on to someone else. Travis followed that with "Hadley, mom's hiding it! It's around here! Keep asking her until she gives it to you!" thank.you.very.much. She ended up choosing a leftover dress from last year's Easter {when I ended up winning three of very similar vintage dresses on ebay at the same time ;}
We went to my sister's house and had a fun{ny} day. We were sitting around the living room and my dad got serious. If you know my family, you know this would feel super awkward. We are total seriousness avoiders. He informed us that he needed some help. I was thinkin... "you can have one of Jason's kidneys I'm keeping mine!" I think somebody "Step-brothers" asked if they were getting a divorce. HA!{we have already picked our future step-mom and step-dad just in case ;) bahahaha}
He pulled a list from his pocket. I was sure he was reading the will.
No such luck.
He's having a new tractor custom designed {is that what it's called?!?}.... and we had to vote on it's name.
You can laugh now too.
After we voted the 1-5 system, he opened the floor for comments and suggestions.
I am not kidding.
I think he misses his days on the school board.
The name choice? Well it wasn't the one that got top votes, that was
"STAY GOLDEN"
and we were going to chant "PONY BOY. PONY BOY." a lot.
I cannot reveal it's name. IT is top secret, just like this tractor. It is not to be discussed in public.
Oops, this blog doesn't count as public... does it?
This was my Easter. It was classic. A great day :)
Comments oh Sarah you nailed it on the name thing I am hurting from all the laughing while reading this,,,YOUR DAD is something glad I am not blood realted. Anyways he comes home tonite with a whole new name not even mentioned that I remember yesterday!! Go figure I knew our votes didn't mean crap! I am still laughing but the look on his face when the pony boy chant was going on was priceless!!! - Grandma Debbie
The pony boy was classic! - Cole

7.April.2012
I'm behind on the stories / to pictures ratio. I'm writing about things that I won't get uploaded today. I'm uploading things I wrote about last week. Joe got 5th place in the Litch 5K today. He rocked it :) It was so awesome to get to see Christa, Heather and Carter.. and Kiza's family run too. Let's all do more 5k's! And by "doing them" I mean I will take pictures and cheer loudly and make sure they have your age correct on the results! My new nephew Ben was born yesterday too. I knew that little bugger was a boy, ha! First time I think I've ever been correct!
6.April.2012
This is my third attempt at "story writing" in the last three days. They haven't been saving.
A quick Five on Friday
1. Joe got braces! $5,483 worth of them. And Travis still isn't talking to me about it ;) I didn't have the heart to tell him, 1 kid down.. 3 to go. The ortho told me 99% of kids WILL need braces.
2. We colored eggs here this week. And guess who found almost all there eggs in the frig {uncolored} after the party! Go me!
3. I can't handle bare feet. Dirty bare feet. It's my #1 gripe about summer. The thought of them running in from outside is like fingernails on a chalkboard. ugh.
4. Tennis has started for Joe. Hello spring sport. Goodbye school work attention. double ugh.
5. Craft club necklaces were a huge.huge hit. At first I was a little sketchy {directions were fuzzy once we got started} but I love. LOVE! how they turned out. I wore mine out&about one afternoon and got a ton of compliments on it. I have a phobia of tight necklaces {and a large neck!} and making one yourself lets it be whatever length feels like you aren't getting choked.
2.April.2012
My little (and growing!) herd of sheep all got naked over the weekend. It's such a fun time out on the farm. I only had about 24 hours notice, and the weather wasn't the best.. or I would have invited you all out to make a day out of it. We've been lucky enough to become friends with a great shearing professional who lives a few miles away. He can cut wool quicker than I can figure out how to turn my phone on ;)
The going rate for shearing a sheep? $4. Yes, that is per sheep. How crazy, crazy cheap is that? I think his time and effort is far more valuable, and I pay as such.
There aren't many people out there who understand my love. My herd. Being the sheep farmer tends to bring much mocking {both Travis and I hear some pretty funny jokes.} And I get asked frequently, why sheep? I don't know the answer to that, other than.. once you have a good one, you just can't get enough of them.
I grew up with a good one, her name was Kirby. The good ones follow you around, eat people food, and you trust 'em with your life. {I have only had one as sweet as Kirby, and that was big Hank who died on Valentines Day a few years ago.} Mine are all very lovely though and I trust them with my kids even though I am often warned against it. I think if I lived out on the farm and they saw me more often, they would all be the Kirby and Hanks of the sheep world :)
I was reading SouleMama's post today about her new adventure in sheep. When she talked about what happened over the weekend, I understood her post like few others would. Of course her sheep have a purpose, she will spin the wool and use it for her own knitting. This isn't something I have any desire to do... yet. But maybe someday? You just never can rule things out.
I have 2 ewes. 2 rams. 1 little lamb. and a pair of twins from last year's "crop" that don't seem to grow. Sheep are worth a pretty penny right now, and one of these days last years twins are going to be on someone's dinner table {gasp! I know. But I have to come up with some sort of plan to pay for their $$$$ hay and grain consumption ;}
Comments Funny I was on soule mamas blog and actually thought your sheep were way cuter than hers! Haha then to open your blog today and there they were! Haha I did like her brown guy though maybe you should get one of those think of the fun pictures you could have with a brown one! :) - Coke
